As of March 10, 2018 at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, we are officially MARRIED!!
Let’s take it from the top, it rained. It rained all evening & into the night. Was I upset?- Eh, I was shocked. Was the night ruined? — Not even a little bit! Our wedding was so much fun & our guests were the real MVP’s.
Just so it’s a little easier to understand… our wedding took place at my parents home. They live on 5 acres of land on the outskirts of town and have a big ole wrap around porch thats 10 ft deep in some areas. If you didn’t know that, it would be hard to imagine the transformation you’ll soon read about!
Our ceremony was scheduled to start at 4pm but after watching the radar it was clear that the rain was coming in HOT… so we bumped the ceremony to a few minutes before 4 and managed to giggle our way through a misting rain– you know, the kind that doesn’t really get you wet or mess up your hair/make up BUT its a warning for the real deal rain that’s about to come pouring down–.
We vowed our vows and laughed together when we Spencer tripped over our words, it was the most surreal moment, ever! We have planned & prepared for so long and here we are, standing in the rain with no real back up plan. It was surprisingly peaceful. It was like no other element mattered because we were right where we were supposed to be, doing exactly what we were supposed to be doing.
After Spencer kissed his bride, we were pronounced husband & wife and made our way back up the aisle. I couldn’t help but turn around and look at all our wonderful friends and family as they watched our bridal party skip off behind us, it was beautiful.
After we retreated to the front of the house, my bridesmaids and I were taking pictures & I could hear a lot of shuffling going on inside but I wasn’t really sure what was happening. — Turns out the groomsmen and my sweet husband began the mass movement of turning our backyard wedding into our new and improved living room wedding–. All of our friends and family helped move chairs and tables inside my parents home, which thankfully has the space for it. A few tables were set up on the back patio area and there was still enough patio space to have a covered dancing area– which we made GREAT use of–.
The food was fantastic, the music was never ending & the night was over all too fast. For our last dance of the evening, Spencer helped me carry the bustled part of my dress and we walked to our arbor that we had exchanged vows under just a little while earlier. The rain had stopped & the DJ started our final song (it was a surprise that Spencer got to pick for me)– Making Plans, by Miranda Lambert–. All the guests had already made their way outside to the front of the house for our big sparkler send off, and the DJ joined them after starting our song. Our photographer captured a few shots, then made her way to the front as well. We were completely alone, just my husband and myself for our last dance under our string lights on our wedding night.
Yes, it rained on our wedding day… but I can’t imagine it any other way now ♡
